At a New Year's Eve party in the final minutes of 1999, the angels meet Angela,
their new assignment. Tess tells Monica that Angela is reluctant to enter the
new millennium because she does not want to give up the past. Tess also informs
her that Angela has forgotten about an important appointment that she made many
years ago. In the crowded chaos of the party, Andrew, working as a waiter, accidentally
spills some champagne on Angela's dress. Angela graciously retreats to the ladies'
room where she meets Monica, the attendant, who is able to clean her dress.
Monica recites a poem to Angela, "Oh! To be alive in such an age!"
and this triggers a childhood memory about Angela's father. When she leaves
the ladies' room, the commitment-weary Angela becomes nervous when she oversees
her escort, Nick, showing Andrew an engagement ring. Later, on the terrace,
Angela tells Andrew about her father, Carl, whom she idolized. He was full of
spirit and had a love of great poetry. Angela remembers that she and her father
buried a time capsule in 1955 and made a pact to return on January 1, 2000 to
dig it up. Andrew encourages her to keep the appointment. Somewhat reluctant
at first to unearth old memories, Angela agrees to make the overnight trip to
her childhood home with Monica and Andrew. The next morning they arrive at the
house which is now a bed and breakfast run by Tess. They check in and Angela
explores her memories, but is reluctant to dig up the time capsule. Instead,
she wants to wait for her father. Angela tells the angels more about Carl --
how he abandoned her without explanation when she was a child. She presumes
he is dead by now. Angela is angry when she realizes that this traumatic event
is the source of her own inability to make a marriage commitment. Finally, Angela
digs up the time capsule. She is surprised to find the capsule filled with twenty
years' worth of letters from her father. Angela and the angels begin to read
the emotional letters -- the final letter accompanied with a note from a doctor
diagnosing Carl as a manic-depressive. This enables Angela to remember an incident
in which Carl brought her to the roof of the house to recite some poetry. In
his elation, Carl accidentally let go of Angela who fell from the roof. Angela
realizes that, though she was unharmed, this is the reason why Carl left, to
protect her. Angela weeps when she grasps that her father never stopped loving
her. Monica then reveals to Angela that she is an angel. Monica tells her that
God does not want her to be afraid of love and commitment any longer. Angela
believes she has ruined her chances of a life with Nick. Monica tells her that
God will decide that, and, in that moment, Angela returns to the terrace of
the New Year's Eve party of the previous night. As the countdown to the New
Year begins, Nick proposes to Angela and she joyfully accepts. The next morning,
Angela and Nick drive to her childhood home, but are shocked to find an office
building in its place. In a glass exhibit, they see the time capsule. Angela
notices an old man waiting nearby, recognizes it to be Carl, and has a tearful
reunion with her father as the angels watch happily.

One of the best of the show-within-a-show series (along with The Larry Sanders
Show and Buffalo Bill) The Jackie Thomas Show is easily the most underrated
series of all time. Most critics hated the show, probably because of their hatred
for Tom and Roseanne Arnold. It is actually a brilliant parody of network television,
the sitcom genre, and Tom and Roseanne's poke at themselves and how they are
perceived. Jackie Thomas is a stand-up comic who rocketed to fame in his own
show, and gained enough power to choose his own writers and creates havoc for
the network. Unfortunately, he's a terrible actor and the show isn't much better.
But it's a ratings success, so Jackie is a sacred cow.

A very well done
television series, but full of excesses!
The series was about the lives and the friendship among four sisters. Patricia
Kalember (thirtysomething) "Georgie" was the backbone of the family
and a home maker. Swoosie Kurtz, (Liar Liar ) "Alex", was a typical
stereotype of a doctor's wife. Sela Ward (Runaway Bride) "Teddy" had
more problems than the other sisters. Everything happened to her. Julianne Phillips
(Allie & Me) "Frankie" was a business person climbing the career
ladder. The series was interesting because when they recollected the past, there
were scenes made with kids that played them as children. That going back to
the past and back to the present gave a lot of physiological impact to the characters.
That was a nice touch! I started watching the series because I have three sisters.
I could identify with the characters. Then the show turned into a typical American
soup-opera where everything happened to one character. They get married, divorced,
blinded and cured, crippled, raped etc., and we decided that we did not like
the series any more and stopped watching it. Some now famous actors played in
the series such as: George Clooney (ER) "Detective James Falconer";
Ashley Judd ( Ruby in Paradise) "Reed Halsey Philby" was the rich
kid who was sent to boarding school in Europe. But overall it was a very well
done television series.

Is a medical drama about a team of hard-working physicians who run a tight-knit medical group adjacent to a hospital in San Francisco. At a time when the world of medicine is becoming more impersonal, the doctors at Presidio Medical Group set bureaucracy aside and put their patients first, forming trusting, long-term relationships. They are Dr. Harriet Lanning (Blythe Danner), a veteran ob/gyn who still loves getting up in the middle of the night to deliver babies; Dr. Rae Brennan (Dana Delany), an oncologist with a passionate, adventurous side; Dr. Letty Jordan (Anna Deavere Smith), a headstrong, in-your-face cardiologist; Dr. Jackie Colette (Sasha Alexander), a brash young plastic surgeon; Dr. Jules Keating (Julianne Nicholson), a confident and fiercely independent pediatrician; Dr. Nicholas Kokoris (Oded Fehr), a surgeon who has just moved to San Francisco from Greece to join Presidio Med -- and to hopefully continue an affair with one of the group's married physicians; and Dr. Matt Slingerland (Paul Blackthorne), a handsome renegade internist with a tendency to bend the rules. Although their personal beliefs, unique experiences and medical specialties are sometimes at odds, each of these professionals is committed to going beyond the examining table and connecting on a more personal level in support of their patients.
